A huge question since the conversations about carriers using Carrier IQ on Android devices is, “which carriers are using carrier iq?”. Well it seems they may all use it even though some claim they don’t. Verizon has tried to argue the fact that they do not use Carrier IQ although we have had countless Verizon customers contact us saying their devices have the spyware installed. A few Motorola devices on Verizons network have been seen running Carrier IQ masked as “Fake Blur Xmpp”.
@joshuatopolshy posted on twitter last week … “To be 100% clear: Carrier IQ is *not* on #Verizon Wireless #VZW phones. There was however a question posed by Russel Holly asking Verizon to explain the following 3 running services:
- 204.235.122.217 vzw-collector.demo.carrieriq.com
- 204.235.122.218 vzw-dis.demo.carrieriq.com
- 204.235.122.251 hupload-vzw99.carrieriq.com
There was no response from Verizon after this question was asked that leaves us to believe they weren’t sure what lie would get them out of answering clearly. Android Advice has not found any reason to believe that Verizon isn’t using the software based on user claims and events like the one above although we personally have no solid evidence on our end so take it as you will.
