We recently wrote about Android being able to dual-boot with WebOS on the HP Touchpad and now there is an Alpha version available for download. Thanks to XDA (as always) you can install Android on the WebOS keeping the TouchPad’s core software untouched.
Installation Instructions:
- Download the Install file (Download Link) – Currently Uploading ….
- Install via Preware
- Be patient and everything will be fine 🙂
The process requires a little trust and guts but will give you an early version of this project to play with. It requires you to use Preware to install the app and once Android is up and running keep in mind that the app is still in very early stages of development. Some of the limitation once your in Android is almost no usable storage areas, no google apps and no Android Market.
Limitations of Android port to WebOS:
- Initial language is Chinese only. You can switch language in settings (may need some trial and error ).
- Wifi switch is not working. Using webos Wifi switch. The network will always show airplane mode, but you can use the browser now.
- Single touch so far.
- Keys: Home: home, Power: power, Volume upper: back, volume down: menu
- The whole IPK runs as OS so far, and will run in a card in next release.
- SD card is not mounted so far, so any program using SD card will not work.
- Usable space has only 11MB left, therefore any big APK will not work.
- No google market so far. Put your apks in /APKS folder when you mount your tablet as a USB drive.
- All other things do not work so far.
If your scared to give this a try you can always wait for CyanogenMod’s Gingerbread version that should be out soon.
