The Pokemon Team has announce that they will be releasing an Android and iOS Pokemon game. The game will be released by Game Freak (the developers of Pokemon) and Nintendo owns 33% of that company. This game will be released with the name Pokemon Say Tap in Japan this summer. There is no exact release date nor any timeframe for US availability although the ball is rolling. For all of you Pokemon fans out there this will be an official release by the Pokemon Team and not a 3rd party developer.
Satoru Iwata at Nintendo has been completely against free games with paid features up until this point so we aren’t sure how the system in game will work yet. Apparently the larger game developers are taking notice of the growth in mobile gamers and we are happy to see them interested.
This is also the first time that Nintendo has released a game for any other console besides their own. They do say however there will be no other titles released on the Android Market despite Pokemon Say Tap being on there. Also the Say Tap app is only available in Japan from our knowledge. We are hopeful that it will be released in the US but for the time being they don’t plan on it.
If your looking forward to the Pokemon game for Android or iOS let us know how you think it will turn out as well as when you actually do try it out. We would like to also see what countries actually get it and when.
UPDATE: Its been a few months now and nothing new has came up about the official Pokemon game and it seems that it may never release it in the US. It has however been released for iOS and Android as a free app in Japan. Also the game play is not what you might expect and is more like Guitar Hero in the way that there is a single string and a song. The song from what we have been told can be turned off but cannot be changed.
