If you have a Casio Commando and have already updated to Android 2.3 Gingerbread then this is the way to root your device after the update. This root method does require you to have the Android SDK on your computer and if your using windows be sure to install the C771 USB drivers. Its really quite an easy process.
Root Instructions for the Casio Commando:
Download and unzip su.zip (Download Link)- Download and unzip zergRush.zip (Download Link)
- Download Superuser.apk (Download Link)
- Connect your Casio Commando to your PC via USB
- Open a command prompt on your PC
- Navigate to your Android SDK directory
- type “adb shell mkdir /data/local/tmp” press enter
- type “adb push [path to zergRush]\zergRush /data/local/tmp” press enter
- type “adb shell chmod 755 /data/local/tmp/zergRush” press enter
- type “adb shell/data/local/tmp/zergRush” press enter
- type “adb remount” press enter
- type “adb push [path to su]\su /system/bin” press enter
- type “adb push [path to su]\su /system/xbin” press enter
- type “adb shell chmod 4755 /system/bin/su” press enter
- type “adb shell chmod 4755 /system/xbin/su” press enter
- type “adb install [Path to Superuser.apk]\Superuser.apk” press enter
- type “adb reboot” press enter
- Congrats your Casio Commando is Rooted
Well, I just spoke with Verizon, and they tell me there is no reason to root the Commando, and that doing so will void my warranty. As I am not interested in changing the format or reprogramming anything, aren’t they correct?
When I read about rooting it, I thought it was needed for some stability or security reason, but now I don’t think so.
Am I correct?
Rooting you device can cause the warranty to be void although in most cases it does not seem to matter. We have sent back 3 different phones to motorola and 1 to samsung and both covered them while rooted. Although they do say it is to their discretion. As far as rooting needs, if you aren’t planning on running a custom ROM or app that requires root access there is no need to root.
So, how do you “navigate” to Android SDK directory to type in those commands?
It depends on where you have it. You have to download the SDK and place it on your computer and that location will be where you need to navigate to.
Ok, I’m new at this, obviously, and pretty lost. Still can’t root using ant means. If this works, I’m missing something. I have every means of communicating with the Commando,but just can’t get root. Any details/ screen shots of the steps to ROOT would be great. Help a n00b out!
