First of all we would like to state that the OtterBox Commuter is not only a case but comes with a screen protector as well so you will not need to buy one separately. The design is thin and less of that bulky protective look but still as protective as previous versions. The silicone while thin enough to keep the Galaxy S4’s sleek look is solid and thick enough to absorb impact when dropping your device. Lets be honest the reason most of us buy and OtterBox case is for the added protection our phones get from the popular case. OtterBox is known for their superior protection with very few others offering the same amount with none in my opinion keeping a nice design while doing so.
As we stated before some of the overlooked protection is the fact that it has flaps over the headphone and micro USB ports to keep dust out and improve the life of your device. Next would have to be the fact that it has a good solid raised bevel in the front to allow the device to be set face down on a table with no worry of scratching the screen at all. In fact during our use of the case over the last few weeks we have dropped it a few times and it landed face down once with absolutely no damage to the screen.
This may fall under both protection and design but we have also noticed that after using the case the silicone is not as sticky as it was so when pulling the phone out of your pocket there is not the risk of it catching and dropping it because of it sticking to the inside of your pocket. This also keeps all of the lint that previous models would catch from just being in your pocket. This is mostly due to the texture that has been added to the rubber itself.
