Android 3.0+ Honeycomb is taking over the Android scene with great features and rich new additions only available on tablets. If you are a VMWare user you will be ecstatic to hear that VMWare View is now available on the Android Market designed specifically for Honeycomb. Now you can access your desktop from your tablet and get work done on the go.
The app uses the PCoIP protocol to allow control of your computer over not only WIFI but 3G and 4G data connections as well. Quality of your connection will of course be altered and WIFI is the recommended connection type.
Features and Functions of VMWare for Tablets:
- Custom Keyboard with additional functions for PC use – Three finger tap brings up the keyboard for an extra toolbar for Ctrl, Alt, Shift, Tab, Esc, Del and Windows Keys. There is also a control pad that is transparent for simple actions when a full keyboard isn’t needed.
- Gestures for quick actions – Tapping one finger will click as normal, two finger tap will right click as standard, Three finger tap opens keyboard and puts it away, selection is done by holding your finger down until you feel the selection, when scrolling you two finger press and slide up or down to move the page.
- Background tasking – You can leave VMWare running in the background in the event you need to go back to Android for any reason. This will however drain your battery very quickly and you should consider disconnecting when not using it.
VMWare for Android is one of the greatest additions to the devices since Honeycomb now allowing users who need windows but don’t want to carry a laptop with their tablet no longer need to.
