LG G2 Vs. Samsung Galaxy S4

With cell phone technology changing all the time, it hasn’t been easy for smaller phone manufacturers to keep up with the innovations of the big names. Thus far, LG has rolled out several very solid smartphones, but it hasn’t yet managed to make a device that stands up to comparison against Apple or Samsung. The LG G2, however, is the company’s newest release and could manage to make quite a splash in the mobile world. Let’s compare it against the Samsung Galaxy S4 to see how it measures up.

LG's G2 verses the Samsung Galaxy S4

Size

The G2 weighs 5.04 oz, making it slightly heavier than the GS4. The G2 is also slightly larger and thicker at 5.45″ x 2.79″ x 0.35″, but it uses its space better, with a larger edge-to-edge 5.2″ screen that takes up more of its surface than the GS4’s 5″ display. While the larger screen is nice, the point here goes to Samsung for keeping their devices small and slim.

Design

The phones have a fairly similar design, with a plastic coating for both. What might be a game changer, though, is that the buttons for the G2 are on the back of the phone. We haven’t handled it yet to know whether this will be an impressive breakthrough or a clumsy attempt at innovation, but LG gets the point for not being afraid to shake things up.

Processor Power

The G2 features the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 as its processor, one of the newest and best processors available. The GS4’s Exynos quad-core processor may not be quite as up-to-date, but unless you’re playing a lot of graphics-intensive games, you most likely won’t even notice the difference between the two. The G2 wins here, but not by much.

Storage

There’s some conflicting information about how much storage will be available on the G2, as the press release indicates both a 16 GB and a 32 GB model, while the official LG website only mentions the 32. Either way, there isn’t a microSD slot, so what you see is what you get. The GS4 gets the point here for allowing expandable storage.

Battery Life

While we haven’t tested the G2’s battery yet, the specs are certainly in its favor. Their high-capacity 3,000 mAh battery should easily keep the phone going all day. The Galaxy S4 battery is 2,600 mAh, so the G2 definitely wins this category.

Camera

The L2 and the Galaxy S4 both offer an impressive 13-megapixel camera, but as of right now, little is known about what else the L2 offers. We do know it has optical image stabilization, but the GS4 had image stabilization features of its own, along with several other camera apps. This one can’t be decided on specs alone. We’ll have to wait until the L2 is released to try it out, but it would have to have some pretty new and exciting features to triumph over the Samsung camera.

Price and Conclusion

The G2 is going to cost slightly more than the Galaxy S4 but you should be able to save a little cash if you look around. While, really, it’s too early to say for certain whether the LG G2 is going to last, we like what we’ve heard. It’s pushing a boundary with its new buttons-on-the-back design, it’s using one of the most powerful processors on the market, and the G2 even has Hi-Fi audio playback. The smartphones that keep up technologically are the ones that get noticed, and the LG G2 is well on its way there.

Three Apps That Naturally Repel Insects And Pests

Particularly a problem in the warmer months, a variety of pests, critters and insects seemingly come out of nowhere, with one simple goal: to propagate. Nature works in mysterious ways, but it comes as no surprise that a plethora of insects and critters want to swarm all around you and hassle you when you try to enjoy a nice evening on the deck or out in the woods. Until recently, the only solutions for pest and critter control were chemical solutions and expensive repellents, but that is no longer the case. Mobile technology has made it possible for us to wield effective weapons in the fight against pests through a concept known as electronic pest control. In the following review, we will discuss three different applications that can help you keep a variety of unwanted pests and insects away while you enjoy nature.

Mosquito Repellent Plus

During the summer months, a variety of bugs will come out of the woodwork and annoy people whether they are out in the wilderness or near the home. Mosquitoes are a big problem in particular, as they can carry infectious diseases and tend to swarm in areas where it is warm and moist. You no longer have to worry about citronella candles and nasty sprays, though, thanks to the Mosquito Repellent Plus app. Users can quickly activate the application and use ultrasonic frequencies to send mosquitoes fleeing for cover. Users can adjust the frequency depending on their needs, and the application can also be effective at repelling other airborne insects. Currently available for free, the Mosquito Repellent Plus app can be downloaded on Google Play.

Ultrasound

Nobody wants to have to hassle with silly traditional remedies like bug spray and other repellents, so the Ultrasound app for Android devices is a much better solution for many. Not only can you repel critters and insects, but the ultrasonic frequencies broadcasted by the app can be used to keep other unwanted animals like dogs and rodents away, as well. The frequencies emitted are irritating and painful for many animals and insects, whose senses are attuned and more sensitive to higher frequencies that humans cannot hear. If you want to avoid frustration from bug bites, barking dogs and other irritations brought on by insects, then the Ultrasound app is a great solution. With this free app, you can ensure that your walks down the street and through the woods are enjoyable and pest-free.

Animal Repellent

If you want a customizable application that can be used to keep all sorts of irritating animals and pests away, then the Animal Repellent app for Android devices is a solid choice. For free, users will be able to select any number of a range of frequencies specifically designed to repel critters. Whether you are being harassed by flies, mosquitoes, rodents or dogs, this app contains several frequencies specifically designed to deal with them. The critters and pests in violation of your personal space will be repelled and irritated by the ultrasonic frequencies, but your ears will remain unaffected.

Where Does Android Master Key Vulnerability Stand?

Sometimes, it can seem like just when you think you’re safe, events occur to show you that you couldn’t have been closer to harm. Such is the case with the recent master key vulnerability uncovered in Android devices.

While technology has allowed us to be more secure on the web than ever, something it has also allowed for is the development of more sophisticated tools for hackers to use to try and overcome those security measures. Indeed, the battle between security measures and those who would break them is never-ending. And this is probably best illustrated by the discovery of the “Master Key”.

Android Master Key Vulnerability

What is the Master Key?

The “Master Key” vulnerability was named as such due to its ability to be successful with any app installed on an Android device. The vulnerability would allow any attacker the ability to make modifications to any apps installed with the simple insertion of a malicious file having the same name as a file already in an application package. This could mean the installation of a Trojan, malware, or any other manner of information-gathering program.

Once opened, the Android device validates the digital signature of the first file, but not of the second because the file appears to have been validated previously. The ability of the Master Key vulnerability to basically render legitimate apps malicious was what caused a main concern among Android users and app developers alike: that the vulnerability could be used to create apps that looked legitimate, but that were malicious, with the ultimate goal of controlling devices completely. And that concern proved itself to be quite legitimate, as two of these apps have already been discovered in China, which has security experts fully expecting this type of app development to continue.

Lack of Patches Confirmed Last Year

Many may wonder why this vulnerability was even allowed to enter the wild, let alone why it had the ability to even be developed. Because according to at least one report last year, there were vulnerabilities that went un-patched in over half of the Android devices in use at the time.

This was discovered following scans with a vulnerability assessment tool for Android devices called X-Ray. The tool scanned Android devices for what are known as ‘privilege escalation vulnerabilities’, which can be exploited by malware.

Even in 2012, the slow deployment of Android security patches was mentioned as having been an issue for many years, the reasons for such slow movement being the manufacturer stopping the issuance of updates, and the inability of carriers to distribute those updates quickly enough.

Rising Mobile Device Usage Could Spell More Trouble

Interestingly, the slow release of patches to users is still considered to be a major reason for the proliferation of the master key vulnerability today. However, it’s suspected that the number of instances of exploited Android devices will continue to rise with the usage of these devices.

Thankfully, today there are several ways to scan and patch various applications. Some examples include ReKey, which alerts users to malicious application installation. Another is Bluebox, which has released an application for scanning for malicious apps on a device.

Expert Advice about Securing Devices from Apps Exploiting the Master Key Vulnerability

Whether this year or last, the advice has tended to be the same: getting your apps from an official marketplace may offer you the highest degree of security. Android users are urged to adhere to Google Play for application downloads, while avoiding those third-party sources often found in online communities, web sites and unofficial marketplaces.

Having a scanner application installed on your Android device can mean easy detection of applications attempting to exploit the master key vulnerability, as well as helping users to avoid installing suspicious apps that can result in the obtaining of personal information.

Hidden features of the Samsung Galaxy S4

While I say hidden features, I’m really saying features that you may not know about that are really cool on your Samsung Galaxy S4. There are so many features these days on our smart phones that many of us over look ones that may be incredibly useful. There are often times features that you may download an app to get that are already integrated into you device without your knowledge. Many of us that are experienced users don’t notice these features until we have had our device for a month or more. If you notice anything that has been missed worth mentioning please let me know in the comments below.

Access all toggles easily with two fingers
You will notice when pulling down your notification bar that there are five toggle icons at the top of the screen for things like WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS and there is an icon at the top right to see all toggles. If you want to skip the icon and go straight to all of the toggles just use two fingers to pull the notification bar down instead of just one. Here you will be able to quickly turn on and off features that you may not be using and turn on those you are in one step.

Use your Galaxy S4 as a TV Remote
Your new Galaxy S4 has an IR port just like a TV remote that allows you to control your TV and other devices from the phone itself. The universal remote that the phone has called “WatchOn” allows you to actually save TV’s in each room so you can select between them depending on the TV you need to control. This app also lets you choose your TV provider or Over the air to get a Channel Guide and show listing as well.

Turn on Easy Mode
Many people are overwhelmed if their first Android device or even smartphone in general is the Samsung Galaxy S4 since there are so many features on the device. There is a cure though and its called “Easy Mode”. The Easy Mode feature takes some of the features away without changing much of the functionality of the device. This allows new users to easily learn their device and then it can be turned back off after the fact once the overwhelming newness wears off. Easy Mode will make the icons larger and easier to tap as well as some other small changes to make life a little easier. You can easily switch between Easy and Standard modes by going to “Settings -> My Device -> Home Screen Mode” then just select Easy Mode. You will change it back to Standard mode in the same way.

Fast Access to Google Now
Google Now if you don’t already know is a predictive personal assistant that comes standard on all Android devices. Most Samsung devices make it a bit harder to find Google Now since they have their S-Voice on them and this is the case for the Galaxy S4 as well. Generally you would double tap the home button to bring up Google Now but it has been replaced as stated before with Samsung’s S-Voice app. This being said you can hold the menu button instead and get Google Now (which is Googles version of Siri as you may already know.

Please keep in mind that if it does not work on your Galaxy S4 that you may need to turn the feature on by taping on the Google Bar on your Home screen and following the prompts. Google Now will eventually learn your schedule and likes by tracking your usage and locations. It will most likely pick up your Home and Work schedules first as well as customizing weather reports based on locations you travel.

Use two apps at the same time (sidebar app drawer)
You can use the two finger swipe trick we showed you earlier and make sure mulit-window is turned on and then long press your back button to get a little icon showing on one side or the other of your screen. This is where you have the multi-window apps. You can easily edit the apps that are there using the edit button at the bottom of the bar. From here all you need to do is drag an icon from the bar into you screen and let go for it to open, then drag a second app icon to have it show in a second window.

Keep in mind that while this is a really cool feature you may come across some apps that aren’t allowed to be split screen but it comes in handy when taking notes and surfing the internet or checking email and watching youtube videos, etc.

Quick Glance alerts and notifications without touching the Galaxy S4
This feature is more or less for those that may have their device with them while doing something with their hands and don’t want to touch the phone. Washing dishes, freshly painted nails, working on the car, whatever it may be. First we will tell you how to turn on the features then explain how exactly it works. To turn on the Quick Glance feature you will need to go to “Settings -> Motions and gestures -> Air Gesture -> Quick glance” and turn on the service. Now that you have it turned on all you have to do is slowly wave your hand over the device to have a screen fade in showing you icons from your notification bar, missed calls, new text messages, battery life and the time.

Keep in mind that this feature is in place to allow you to see anything new going on but nothing can be selected from this screen. This screen is strictly informative and in no way actively functional.

Galaxy S4 Air View for more information
This feature is more of an upgrade of the Quick Glance feature although is in fact interactive and not only informative. This will allow you to hover over certain areas to see more information before clicking something as well as zooming in on images to see more of it before tapping through to see it full screen. To turn this feature on you will need to go to “settings -> my device -> air view” and turn it on from there. After you turn it on you can go into more detail as to hoe you want the feature to work.

Control the Galaxy S4 with your eyes
One of the coolest features the Galaxy S4 has is the “Smart” features, as in “Smart Stay”, Smart Pause” and “Smart Scroll”. Your Galaxy S4 will actually watch your eyes to determine what actions you want accomplished. Once you turn on the features you can have the screen stay active as long as you are looking at it, automatically pause videos when you look away and a few other features. This is standard in most of the Samsung apps although not all apps may work with it, its cool just the same.

You can access the feature to turn it on or off for these three different Smart options via “Settings -> My device -> Smart screen” and turning on either Smart Stay, Smart Pause, or Smart Scroll. Smart Stay prevents the screen from sleeping while you are looking at the device. Smart Pause will pause videos when you look away from them while they are playing (not all video players work with this but the major ones do). Smart Scroll will allow you to either tilt your head or the device to scroll up and down the screen when surfing the web or other activities that require scrolling.

Data Overage Notification and Management
The Samsung Galaxy S4 allows you to set a notification for limits on data as well as turn off mobile data when it hits it to avoid overage charges on your carriers data plan. You can manage this feature by going to “Settings -> Connections tab -> Data Usage” and selecting “Mobile data” and “Set mobile data limit”. This screen will also allow you to see what apps are using most of your data so that you can manage the apps you use to determine if there is one you want to delete to save data. This only tracks your devices data usage so if your on a shared data plan you will not see total usage just the devices.

Increase Galaxy S4 Screen Sensitivity
The Galaxy S4 has a pretty sensitive touch screen already but what about in the winter when you are wearing gloves, yes theres a feature for that too. This feature as many others has to be turned on via “settings -> My Device -> Display -> High-touch sensitivity” and turn it on there. While it will work with heavy gloves and mittens, it seems to be a little more difficult to use so thinner gloves are recommended.

Call Rejection to Block Calls
If your anything like me you have a contact you created specifically for numbers that you want to ignore or just outright reject. With Samsung’s Galaxy S4 the feature is built right in to the device. You will go to the “Auto reject list” by opening the phone app and tapping the phones menu button, from there you can select Call Settings and Call rejection. At this point you can add numbers to the auto reject list and when these numbers call you the phone won’t even ring it will just send them straight to voicemail.

Smart Alerts when your Galaxy S4 moves
If you have new notifications or missed calls you will know when you pickup the phone by it vibrating. With this feature you can pickup your phone to put it in your pocket and if it vibrates then check to see what you missed, if it doesn’t then just throw it in your pocket confident that you have missed nothing. To turn on the feature you need to go to “settings -> My device -> Motions and gestures -> Motion -> Smart alert” and turn it one there. Many devices will have this on by default so if the feature is not something you like every time you pick up the device you can turn it off there as well.

Galaxy S4 Voice Control
This is easily the feature that I use more than any other on this device, are we getting lazier every day we own a device like this, certainly. You can easily take pictures, snooze or turn off the alarm clock and even answer phone calls by talking to your phone. Turn this feature on from the camera app by opening “settings -> My device -> Voice control” turn this on and from there you can select what you want to control with your voice. The available features to use voice control with is your incoming calls, ChatOn, Alarm clock, Camera and music.

You can answer or reject phone calls or ChatOn requests by saying “Answer” or “Reject”. You can control your Alarm clock by saying either “Snooze” or “Stop”. You can control your Camera by saying either “Cheese”, “Capture” or “Shoot”. Last you can control your music by saying “next”, “previous”, “pause”, “play”, “volume up” and “volume down”.

If there are any other features that you have found to be useful and worth mentioning here please let me know via a comment below.  The Samsung Galaxy S4 is easily the greatest Android smartphone available right now and has features that you will see on no other phone.  Samsung has been a leader and has once again proven that they will be tough to compete with in the smartphone market.

Cracked Smartphone Screen – Repair Or Embrace?

For the average adult, there are few things more frustrating than a cracked smartphone screen – especially on a newer device that is still a while from upgrade.

But with the younger market, a surprising trend is emerging – one that turns those deathly cracked screens into a status symbol.

When your phone is dropped and the screen pays the price, what is the best move… repair, leave as is or go for early upgrade (out of your own pocket)?

cracked phone screen

Cracked Screens as a Youth Status Symbol

In the US, cracked screens have become the latest way to express uniqueness and character. Even users in their 20s are not as worried about cracks as older users might be. Many even go as far to see cracks as ‘battle scars’ that show street cred.

According to 18 year old Kaitlyn Wilson of Missouri, “It’s an accident when it drops, but nobody wants to pay the money to get it fixed. If you were the only person with a cracked screen, you would probably run out to get it fixed. But everybody else’s is cracked, so why not leave it? Then Sharpie it, and make a design out of it on Pinterest.”

Others have cottoned on to the ‘sharpie’ treatment too, using anything from sharpies to nail polish to customise their cracks. But English professor Mark Bauerlein at Emory University sees the trend a bit differently. He points out that without insurance, cracks are far less ‘cool’, and that it is the upper ranks that are able to partake in this trend without the worry.

“Only if you’re fairly comfortable can you regard the cases of deterioration or damage to your cell phone as a sign of status,” Bauerlein says, adding, “If you’re poor, then it’s just damaged.”

Repair Cracked Screen or Replace Phone?

Parents and the majority of sensible adults meanwhile are able to look past the trend factor to understand the implications of a cracked screen. Among the dangers of leaving the screen as is, consequences include further cracks, potential shattering of glass into hands or face and further damage to the phone as liquid gets into the finer workings of the phone’s components.

And of course, there is also the usability factor too – anyone who has battled to get a touchscreen to work with a huge crack across its screen will know just how much fun that can be.

Repair options range from DIY glass replacement – costly and often very pricey too – to taking the phone in to a professional for repairs, or even replacing the entire phone if you have the budget or are near your upgrade.

Even if you are not quite ready to see cracks as something cool, you may be putting off the repair due to time constraints, laziness or even forgetfulness. Whatever the case, keep in mind that leaving your broken phone is will put you right in there with the cool kids and their trendy painted cracks… or you may just end up with an even more broken phone that your warranty doesn’t cover.

Samsung Galaxy S4 OtterBox Commuter Case Review

OtterBox has been one of the most known names in smartphone protection for some time now and it shows with the OtterBox Commuter Case for the Galaxy S4. They are the pioneers of the dual layer cases, with a silicone cover for shock absorption and a polycarbonate outer shell holding it all together. You can get the OtterBox Commuter case in a wide variety of colors as well to fit your unique style.

OtterBox Commuter Galaxy S4 Case Review

Galaxy S4 OtterBox Commuter Case Design:
First of all we would like to state that the OtterBox Commuter is not only a case but comes with a screen protector as well so you will not need to buy one separately. The design is thin and less of that bulky protective look but still as protective as previous versions. The silicone while thin enough to keep the Galaxy S4’s sleek look is solid and thick enough to absorb impact when dropping your device. The cutouts around the device are as precise as you can get with flaps that cover the micro USB and headphone jacks to prevent dust from entering the device.

We will have to take note that the design was greatly improved over the Galaxy S3 version. You will notice that getting the Galaxy S4 into the OtterBox case is much easier as well as removing it. The old case for the previous Galaxy device had the polycarbonate shell surrounding the volume and power buttons causing it to be very difficult to put together and take apart. Another huge improvement (can’t state this enough) is the fact that you can press the power and volume buttons gently to use them while on the Galaxy S3 version you had to put some muscle into it.

Some other notable improvements to the case are the fact that the grip is a bit easier with a three dimensional texture and a bit more rubber on the outside of the case as opposed to it being almost entirely covered.

Galaxy S4 OtterBox Commuter Case Protection:
Lets be honest the reason most of us buy and OtterBox case is for the added protection our phones get from the popular case. OtterBox is known for their superior protection with very few others offering the same amount with none in my opinion keeping a nice design while doing so.

As we stated before some of the overlooked protection is the fact that it has flaps over the headphone and micro USB ports to keep dust out and improve the life of your device. Next would have to be the fact that it has a good solid raised bevel in the front to allow the device to be set face down on a table with no worry of scratching the screen at all. In fact during our use of the case over the last few weeks we have dropped it a few times and it landed face down once with absolutely no damage to the screen.

This may fall under both protection and design but we have also noticed that after using the case the silicone is not as sticky as it was so when pulling the phone out of your pocket there is not the risk of it catching and dropping it because of it sticking to the inside of your pocket. This also keeps all of the lint that previous models would catch from just being in your pocket. This is mostly due to the texture that has been added to the rubber itself.

Galaxy S4 Hard Case

Conclusion:
If you are looking for a stylish case that offers superior protection against drops and scratches without a bulky contractor looking case the OtterBox Commuter case is the way to go. The only true drawbacks are the fact that it does add a little weight to your Galaxy S4. As far as color choices, design, and protection you found the perfect case.

Review: Kidigi Samsung Galaxy S4 Charging Car Mount (Video)

The Kidigi car mount will charge your Samsung Galaxy S4 while you are in the car and is structurally the most solid mount we have reviewed. You can mount the Kidigi unit to either your windshield or dash using one of two different methods (shown in the video below). There are a couple drawbacks if you are one that likes large cases but other than that its a pretty solid car mount.

Kidigi Charging Car Mount Design
The cradle is designed with a solid plastic that will hold up against harsh use even though we see no reason you should be rough on something that is rarely moved. The swivel on the mount allows for you to view your Galaxy S4 no matter where you are in the car so you can point it at a passenger or child to watch a show without having to move the mount itself. This also allows you to get the perfect angle for yourself when driving. When placing your phone in the cradle there is also a piece at the top that clicks down to hold the phone in place. The accessory is case friendly to an extent, meaning if you have a thin case you can take the insert out of the mount and use it with a case. We will mention and as seen in the video that larger more protective cases will not fit.

Kidigi Charging Car Mount Features
Next we look at the charging capability of the car mount and its pretty solid. The cradle itself plugs into your cigarette lighter so that you never need to touch it and there is a shorter cable coming from the mount that attaches to your Galaxy S4. This is once since there is no need to have a cable pulling on the phone while its sitting in the cradle and also allows you to permanently run the power if you wish to do so.

Another great feature of the cradle is the fact that you can take pictures and video since it has a cutout behind it for the camera to freely see through your windshield. I find myself picking up my phone to take a picture when driving or at a stoplight (which is probably a bad idea) and this allows me to do it without holding the phone. Also paired with the Galaxy S4’s capability to take pictures with voice commands makes it an awesome feature of the cradle.

Full Features of the Galaxy S4 Kidigi Car Mount:

  • Slim, elegant design.
  • Charge your device in the car.
  • Automatically enable navigation mode with hands-free.
  • 360 degree rotating cradle.
  • Adjustable arm allows multiple viewing angles.
  • Mount to either windshield or dashboard.
  • Capture photos or record videos directly on the cradle without any obstruction while driving.
  • Fast charge your device in the car with the micro-USB to cigarette lighter adapter cable.
  • Compact portable design convenient for travellers and business users.

  • Gooseneck Pedestal (adjustable arm) with suction cup (approximately 140mm).
  • Mounting Plate (with adhesive tape) (use with Gooseneck Pedestal for dashboard mounting – approx. 80mm).
  • Cover-mate insert (option to dock your phone with or without the case).
  • Micro-USB car power adapter (plugs into cigarette lighter socket).
  • User Manual in five different languages!

Conclusion
We do have to say that this is by far the best cradle for your Galaxy S4 that we have seen to date. We used the mount for a few days and have nothing negative to say about it besides the fact that in our instance we have to remove the phone from out larger Acase for it to sit in the cradle without forcing it in.

G.I. Joe Battleground Overview and Walkthrough

G.I. Joe Battleground is a card battle game that closely resembles Blood Brothers but with much better graphics and a G.I. Joe theme that many enthusiasts will enjoy. The game was developed by DeNA Studios and Mobage allowing players to select from Joe’s or Cobra’s or even mix their decks. This is considered a card battle game although if nobody told you this you wouldn’t know as the graphics and gameplay aren’t just trading cards and stacking decks. Read on to learn the inside and out of G.I. Joe Battleground.

Getting Started
G.I. Joe Battleground Home ScreenG.I. Joe Battleground is a free to play game so there is no reason not to give it a shot if it looks like a game for you. Simply download and run the app, login to your Mobage account if you have one or even play as a guest if you don’t have or want to create an account. Take note that if you create an account you can play from any device but as guest it will only be on the device you are using and cannot be recovered later.

Once you have started the game for the first time you will run through a quick tutorial that overviews the basic concepts of the game. This will include switching out units in your squad, simple battles and movement. Once you have finished the tutorial you will have to choose your leader for Joe’s and Cobra’s. Keep in mind that once you have chosen you cannot change your leaders so make sure you choose wisely, they each have their own skills and stats so look through them carefully.

You can also submit an invite code during this process that will allow you to gain a rare card and a few other items. If a friend has invited you use their code as they will get benefits as well from the invite. Read on for more information on invites.

Invite Code and Referrals:
After the G.I. Joe Battleground tutorial you will be given the opportunity to submit an invite code for a rare card and other items. This rare card is usually a very powerful card for newcomers (at the time of this article it is Storm Shadow who has the Blitz skill). If you were not referred by a friend then please feel free to use my invite code “7wUQiu” I welcome the benefits and thank you for using it if you choose to do so. If by chance you have already passed this point you still have a few days to enter the code but will need to now go to the “Home” screen and tap “info” at the bottom left. From there you can click the banner that says “Invite Friends for Exclusive Rewards”.

If you are looking to invite others to play then you can also find your invite code from the banner we just mentioned under “info”. You can also see what the rewards are and send invites to your friends via Facebook, Twitter, email and text message.

Use Invite Code 7wUQiu for a rare card and other items

Navigating the Zones:
Now that you have finished the tutorial and learned about invite codes you will want to get started playing. At this point from the “Home” screen you can select missions and choose the faction you want to attack. Once you have chosen a faction you will be shown the zone you are on and next edit your squad.

Edit Squads:
Now that you are ready to edit your squads you can choose the units you want to go into the mission and backups for each in the event your front line unit dies or you just want a different skill for the fight you are in during the zone. There is an auto button that will create a squad for you and does a pretty good job at getting it right. When you have units that bf otters you may need to rearrange accordingly.

Zone interaction:
G.I. Joe Battleground Zone InteractionOnce you have selected you units and confirm the mission you will enter the map to begin fighting. At this point you can select units shown at the bottom of the screen and swap with the backups you chose as well as long pressing them to see their current stats, level etc. Navigation is pretty easy as you just need to tap either the arrow or Go button. At some points you will hit a crossroad where you can choose a direction. Generally your options will either be chosen based on wanting to run quickly to the end of the mission or slowly to level new troops. Other actions while in a zone are finding boxes, credits, other units to attack and randomly starting a PVP battle on a clear space.

PVE Battles in Zones:
When in a zone you will get into battles with units that can be seen on the board. When you land on a unit you will see their units as well as yours and can tap yours to change who fights in that battle. Once you are setup the best way you feel you can tap “Engage!” to begin the battle and watch it play out. Skills proc randomly based on their level and the battle is fully automated as you have no interaction at this point in time. Once the battle is over their is a chance that you can get some of the units you fought by capturing them using a stun Grenade to have a 100% chance of getting the unit or using a flashbang and hoping lock is on your side.

PVP Battles in Zones:
PVP battles woek much like the PVE battles other than the fact that the more you win the harder the battles become. Also when a PVP battle is initiated you have the option of choosing between three other players to attack. You will be shown each players level as well as the units they bring into the battle. After you have chosen the player you want to attack the battle begins exactly the same way as the PVE battles mentioned previously. One difference is that at the end of the PVP battle you can fight another player if you win until you beat 3 in a row. Take note that you only have 10 minutes to fight all 3 battles.

Once you win 3 battles in a row you will be given items based on your total wins. Generally you will get a bonus unit used for upgrading units skills, credits, and a silver coin. The bonus items will increase based on your total wins that show in multiples of 3. When you lose a PVP battle your total consecutive wins will reset and go back to 0 along with the benefits that you receive from each battle. After PVP battles you have the option to ally with the player you have just fought with to help each other out in events which we will cover later.

Completion of Zones:
G.I. Joe Battleground BattleOnce you complete a zone you will be given a random item for your trouble. Also at this point you can open all of the boxes that you have gathered through the zone and get items from those as well. If you retreat from a zone you lose the boxes accumulated throughout the mission.

Recruiting Units:
When you are at the Home screen in G.I. Joe Battleground there is a button on the right to “Recruit”, this is where you can get more units using Mobage coins, Silver Coins, and Bronze Coins. Here you can select the way you want to get units and then the amount of coins you want to use. You will randomly be given units based on the coins you chose to use and they will be added to your deck. Next you will want to either dismiss units for credits or use them in your squad.

Upgrading Units:
Now from the Home screen you can select the “Upgrade” button on the right and upgrade you current units in 3 different ways upgrade, promotion, and boost. Upgrade is used to increase a units skills by selecting the unit you want a skill upgraded for and then up to 8 other units that you want to dismiss to give this skill to them. Keep in mind that you will lose all units besides the primary one selected once you confirm the action.

Second is Promotion which is the first way that you can increase a units stats as well as upgrade its level (shown by number of starts from its stats). When promoting a unit you select the primary unit that you want to gain the boost to skills and increase in level, then you select the exact same unit that will be destroyed to give stats to the primary unit. Keep in mind that if the secondary unit is at max level you will give the primary unit 10% of its stats, if the secondary unit is not at max level then only 5% of stats are carried over. your primary units stats has no effect in this process. You also need to know that the secondary unit must be at the same or lower promotion level as the primary (same or less stars).

Third is Boost which is another way to increase a units stats. During missions, events, etc. you will collect medals and each of these medals have a stat attached to it being either health, attack, defense, tac, or agility. The screen will tell you that each stat can be upgraded 50 times but what it should actually say is that you can use up to 50 medals total on any unit. If you use say 50 health medals, 25 defense and 25 attack, 10 of each on a unit then thats it you can no longer use medals on that unit. Each medal increases a units stats by 50 points in the associated stat giving a unit up to 2500 additional stats from medals. Medals can also only been added to a unit that is not currently involved in a mission or event.

Other In Game Options:
From the Home screen you can select “More” on the bottom right and get to all other options that don’t fall anywhere else. First is the Shop that allows you to buy items with Mobage coins, as well as your Items, Allies, Squad, Invite, Collection and help. One thing here that you may use regularly is the Dismiss feature where you can get rid of units that you don’t want or no longer need and in return you will get credits.

At the bottom of the Home screen you will also see something called Surplus which is kind of like an inventory for items that you don’t have yet. General will be where referral rewards, event rewards, etc will show up. Temporary will be an overflow from gameplay like when you don’t have room for recruits or items. The temporary surplus will empty after a given amount of time so be sure if there is something there that you want you get it out within a few days or risk losing it forever. Last is the Exchange which I don’t think is being used right now but once there is a player market of some sort for trading units this is where those units will be sent when you make trades.

Events:
Games like G.I. Battleground and Blood Brothers have events going on almost all the time in game. These events allow you to go to a temporary area for a week or so and try to rank higher than others, gain special boosts and other items. These events change regularly and are hard to track in an article like this. For more on events you will just need to play the game and jump into the action.

Conclusion:
G.I.Joe Battleground is an awesome game that just took a great Blood Brothers game and game it a graphical overhaul with a genre we can all enjoy. The fact that you can change between factions is great as well as play for free. You may never be at the top of the leader boards without Mobage coin but you can easily have fun and keep up with the best of them. I would recommend this game to anyone that loves strategic card based games as building your unique and powerful decks can prove to be a difficult but fun task.

New Samsung and Google Android Tablets for 2013

Samsung has proven themselves many times over to be the number one mobile device manufacturer by not only their own devices but helping Google with theirs. Samsung is pretty quiet about their upcoming devices until they are ready to unveil them to the world but with so many people waiting for the next Samsung device its hard to keep under wraps. This year 2013 Samsung has several new Tablets that have leaked specs available to us all.

There are not only a couple Samsung specific devices to look forward to but also a new 11 inch Google tablet they currently have in the works. Samsung decided this time to add a little more screen to their 7 inch tablets putting them at 8 inches, and the 10 inch tablets bumped up to 11 inches. Below are the new 2013 devices and rumored specs for each.

New Samsung Tablets 2013Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.0

  • 8.0 inch AMOLED 1080p Display
  • 5 Megapixel rear and 2 Megapixel front cameras
  • Quad-core A9 Exynos 4412 Processor
  • microSD slot to expand an additional 64 GB of storage

Samsung Galaxy Tab 11

  • 11 inch Super PLS TFT Display
  • 8 Megapixel rear and 2 Megapixel front cameras
  • Dual-core A15 Exynos 5250 Processor
  • microSD slot to expand an additional 64 GB of storage

Google Branded Nexus 11

  • 11 inch Super PLS TFT Display
  • 8 Megapixel rear and 2 Megapixel front cameras
  • Octa-core A15 / A7 Exynos 5410 Processors
  • microSD slot to expand an additional 64 GB of storage

There are still a few things that need to be worked out before these become a reality as one issue Samsung is having is a AMOLED burning issue with the 8 inch display on the Galaxy Tab 8.0 and the fact that they still need Google’s approval on the Google Nexus 11. Of course both of these issues should be a non issue for Samsung besides a few tweaks Google may make before production. This being said the Google Nexus 11 would be the first octa-core tablet and would be a milestone for Samsung and Google alike.

We aren’t entirely sure if Samsung will try to keep the tablets around the same dimensions and just remove some of the bevel to make the screen larger or just make the entire tablet bigger. We of course hope for little bevel and larger screen. Another feature that is unclear is the addition of an S-Pen which currently is a Note feature but would be nice to see added to these as well.

If you are looking to get any of these tablets or notice any other features that we may have forgotten please let us know via comments below. As we find out more information we will be sure to share with you all.
