Instructions to Root the Droid X on Froyo 2.3.340:

  3. Congrats your Rooted … Easy right 🙂

So Why Root the Droid X?
Everyone  has their own reason for rooting their Android device but among the top reasons are being able to tether without paying for a carriers plan (this also allows those with unlimited data services to keep it that way without upgrading).  Freedom to make changes within the system files of your device as well as backing up the device in its entirety.  Sometimes it comes down to something as simple as the ability to take screenshots with your device or get rid of (or change) the boot animations.  No matter what your reason the root methods are getting easier as time goes on and its easily the most influential improvement you can make to your device.

What are the Drawbacks from Rooting the Droid X?
Well to be honest at this point there is no real drawback as your device is likely out of contract although if you are for some reason still under contract this can void it in the event of damage to your device.  There is also the risk of damaging your device by deleting or altering files that you would otherwise have no access to without root.

Let us know if you root your Droid X and what the outcome was or is.  Although at the time of this article it was a great device and even Froyo at the time was worth having but Android has improved greatly since and you are likely ready for an upgrade or are using the device as an Android iPod Touch 🙂
